Coomassie Brilliant Blue

This can get messy, so wear a lab coat or be careful. Make 1L at a time. Stain can be recycled if desired.

Materials Required

Coomassie Brilliant Blue R-250

Glacial Acetic Acid

200 Proof Ethanol

MilliQ or high grade water

Protocol

1. Add 1g of Coomassie Brilliant Blue powder to bottle with a stir bar.
2. Add 400mL of 200 proof ethanol. Stir vigorously for an hour.
3. Add 500mL of milliQ water.
4. Add 100mL of glacial acetic acid.
5. Stir for another hour. Stir bar can absolutely be recovered and destained.

Coomassie Staining Protocol

Destain

Make 1L at a time. No need to recycle.
